According to Marina I. Bessonova, Chief doctor of the Cardiology clinic, in the first half of the current year the total mortality rate from myocardial infarction was 9.9%. She added that the rate reduction had become possible due to the use of high-technology methods of treatment, in particular percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty and coronary stenting.
It is worth mentioning that in the group of patients who had undergone primary angioplasty the mortality rate was only 3.6% (in 2007 - 9.2%). It concerns the group of patients with large-focal myocardial infarction who were brought to the Cardiology Center in a grave condition and were operated on at once.
Mikhail V. Semukhin, MD, an interventional cardiologist of the Cath lab, noted: “Our department works 24 hours a day. And we perform primary angioplasty at any time there is need. This helps to quickly restore blood flow to the heart muscle and reduce its necrotic zone. Besides, using angioplasty reduces risk of cardiovascular events, such as heart rhythm disturbances and many others. PTCA in patients with acute myocardial infarction has been showed to reduce hospitalization period. These patients recover and return to work faster than those whom this operation has not been done. Moreover, the procedure has a long-lasting effect.”
About 800 angioplasties and stenting procedures were performed in Tyumen Cardiology Center during seven months of the current year. |
