INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE HELD IN TYUMEN CARDIOLOGY CENTER

On  October 30, 2008 the opening of the conference took place where the director of Tyumen Cardiology Center,  prof. Vadim A. Kuznetsov, greeted the participants. He noted that the main objective of our scientific meetings is an exchange of experience between Russian cardiologists and their colleagues from abroad. He added that the conference would get together more than 400 cardiologists and physicians from many cities of Russia as well as specialists from foreign countries. The participants were also greeted by Sergey N. Kharyuchi, chairman of the State Duma of the Yamalo-Nenets autonomous district, by Nikolay P. Baryshnikov, a member of Tyumen Regional Duma and by Sergey V. Goltsov, deputy director of Tyumen region Healthcare Department. They congratulated the physicians upon the beginning of the conference and wished them fruitful work. They also noted that achievements of scientists are always in demand by practicing physicians, particularly in the North of the Tyumen region where in high latitudes the problem of cardiovascular diseases is especially urgent.

The scientific program of the conference  included plenary sessions, concurrent sessions and poster presentations. The topics discussed at the meeting are of great importance. They are concerned with prevention of sudden cardiac death and with innovative methods of diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases (chronic heart failure, coronary artery disease, and heart rhythm disturbances). All these diseases still remain  the main causes of death and early working disability.

It is worth mentioning that this year a lot of practical work has been done within the conference. There were held two workshops on high-technology methods of diagnosis and treatment at which the attendees of the conference got to know innovative approaches to diagnosing and treating patients. In particular, there was a workshop “Echocardiography in patients` selection for cardiac resynchronization therapy”. It was presented by Tomas M. Binder, director of Echocardiography Laboratory of the Department of Cardiology at the  University of Vienna, and Dmitriy V. Krinochkin, head of the Ultasound Diagnostics Department at Tyumen Cardiology Center. Another workshop within the conference was devoted to programming cardioverter-defibrillators. It was conducted under the direction of  Nikolay M. Neminuschiy,  Professor of Chair II of Cardiovascular Surgery at  I.M. Sechenov Moscow Medical Academy.

It should be added that starting with the next year the annual scientific conference “Cardiology Update” will be held in May. The first spring conference will take place on May 27 – 29, 2009 and will be held in conjunction with  International Congress of Geriatric Cardiology and Non-invasive Cardiac Imaging.
