Description

Tatiana P. Gizatulina, MD, PhD, Head and Senior Scientific Researcher of Arrhythmology Department made a poster presentation with the study results of patients with atrial fibrillation hospitalized for radiofrequency ablation from 2014 to 2017.

“Our analysis showed that echocardiography provides additional predictors of the increased risk of thrombosis of left atrial appendage. These factors are not included in the traditional scale for assessing the risk of thromboembolic complications (CHA2DS2-VASc), which is used in all current recommendations for the treatment of atrial fibrillation. A model was obtained that includes three predictors: the stability of atrial fibrillation, the diameter of the left atrium, and a certain type of left ventricular geometry - eccentric hypertrophy.

The first two factors are traditionally associated with the risk of this arrhythmia, but existence of left ventricular eccentric hypertrophy is a finding of our study. Such type of heart geometry increases risk of thrombosis by 4.2 times, and risk of a stroke as well” - noted Tatiana Gizatulina.

The forum program was very interesting and intense. It included lectures by leading experts in the field of cardiology from the USA, Canada, Great Britain, Singapore and other countries on the treatment of atrial fibrillation and heart failure. The problems of comorbid conditions with atrial fibrillation were also covered. For example, chronic kidney disease, cancer.
