The event has become a historical milestone for its organizers, permanent participants and all members of the medical community, as the first “Cardiostim” occurred in 1993, which was 25 years ago. St. Petersburg has united specialists involved in the diagnosis and treatment of arrhythmias and conduction disorders of the heart for a quarter of a century, providing a platform for experience exchange, professional discussions and educational events, which are indispensable for the development of the specialty.
Within three days more than 2000 participants from 23 countries shared their experience in diagnostics and treatment of arrhythmias - disturbances of heart rhythm and conductivity. It is the main topic of the congress and one of the most socially important issues of the modern health care. There are more than 200 thousand deaths due to this pathology in Russia. But this negative statistics can be changed using modern and unique innovations. Amount of hi-tech surgical interventions in case of life-threatening arrhythmias grows in number year by year. The first operations on treatment of arrhythmias in Tyumen Cardiology Research Center were performed 20 years ago. Nowadays our interventional cardiologists perform more than 300 operations of radiofrequency ablation per year.
Traditionally a big team of specialists of Tyumen Cardiology Research Center delivered oral and poster presentations at the meeting.
Elena Yaroslavskaya, MD, PhD, Leading Scientific Researcher, ultrasound diagnostics specialist, says, «It was my first presentation at this congress. We decided to check if atrial fibrillation is connected with a certain location of coronary bed lesion. In the beginning of the study it was not confirmed, but we will keep searching for the answer. Atrial fibrillation can accompany not only coronary artery disease but also arterial hypertension and congestive heart failure».
Vadim Kuznetsov, MD, PhD, Deputy Director for Science delivered an oral presentation on cardiac resynchronisation therapy.
Tatiana Enina, MD, PhD, Leading Scientific Researcher and Natalia Khorkova, MD, Scientific Researcher also had oral presentations at the meeting. Dr. Khorkova shared the results of patients’ treatment taking combined therapy in atrial fibrillation after percutaneous coronary interventions. The results showed that our doctors strictly follow the latest world recommendations in this sphere. Two more her presentations were devoted to the modern hi-tech treatments of atrial fibrillation – radiofrequency and cryo-ablation. According to the questionnaire of the patients, 80% of them state the improvement in their quality of life and overall health.
This congress gave a powerful boost to the arrhythmology progress in Russia as it united all Russian arrhythmologists and allowed to take an international experience. Scientific committee of the congress consists of the leading specialists of the biggest medical centers of Russia and other countries.
