From 29 August until 2 September the ESC Congress was held in London. This event is considered to be one of the largest and important in the world medicine. Annually physicians, scientists and healthcare professionals from all over the world get together to share latest achievements in cardiology. Specialists of Tyumen Cardiology Center took part in the meeting and presented posters.

This year ESC Congress has set a new record with 32778 participants from five continents, more than 50 countries, including 440 specialists from Russia. Over 11000 abstracts were submitted from 100 countries and 4533 abstracts were published. In his speech to the participants Prof. Fausto Pinto, ESC President, said, ‘Cardiovascular death rate has been declined but we should not get relaxed. Heart failure, for example, is still on the top and requires additional researches together with other aspects of cardiology. We will keep standing for innovations in cardiology.’

Over a long period the main targets of the Congress have not changed, such as exchange of experience in prevention, diagnostics and treatment of cardiovascular diseases, discussion of issues and development of cardiac service, presentation of the latest medical achievements. This year scientific program included plenary sessions, symposia, hands-on tutorials, special sessions including guidelines in daily practice, clinical cases, advances in science, meet the experts, poster sessions, exhibitions, interactive sessions, et.al. By the most advanced communication technologies electronic distribution of the main news and press releases for all specialists registered at the official web site was organized at the Congress; besides, TV channel was showing all scientific sessions online. Educational project ESC-365 which gives free access to videos, slides, abstracts, congress reports and other Congress materials has been started up at the web site of ESC.

Professor Vadim Kuznetsov, Director of Tyumen Cardiology Center delivered 2 poster presentations on application of cardiac resynchronisation therapy in patients with congestive heart failure. Professor Aleksander Rychkov, Deputy Director of Tyumen Cardiology Center shared his impressions, “I had a special interest in new clinical recommendations on treatment of acute coronary syndrome and also on prevention and treatment of a sudden cardiac death.”

Traditionally HOT LINE sessions with presentation of main scientific and clinical research results have arisen the greatest interest. Within 3 days the results of 28 clinical trials, 18 updates of clinical trials and 20 registers of 6 aspects (acute myocardial infarction, atrial fibrillation/pace makers, diabetes mellitus/pharmacology, hypertension, heart failure, and coronary artery disease) have been presented. Great attention was paid to the campaign “Environment and the heart”. Researches show that air pollution enhances the risk of severe heart attacks, this factor is becoming critically important.
