Description

This year Russian National Congress of Cardiology, one of the biggest medical events in the country, was held in Kazan on 24-26 September. During 3 days doctors and scientists from 191 cities of Russia and 25 foreign countries have discussed the latest achievements and actual issues of prevention, diagnostics and treatment of cardiovascular diseases. Total amount of participants was 3930 people. President of European Society of Cardiology (ESC), Prof. Fausto Pinto and ex-President of ESC, Prof. Panos Vardas and also the leading scientists from Moscow, Saint-Petersburg and other Russian cities visited Kazan.

On September 26 a round table “Strategy of Russian Society of Cardiology education development: technologies and perspectives” was held. Today Russian system of postgraduate education is on the edge of significant changes: it is planned to pass from an outdated system of professional development every 5 years to a modern system of continuous medical education (CME). The sense of this innovation is the following: taking part in scientific events of different levels doctors get credits which later are taken into account when passing qualification exams. Today some regions in Russia are implementing a trial project on principles of CME for doctors and pharmacists. It is expected that international congresses, which are held annually in Tyumen Cardiology Center, will be also accredited and will be included in a list of activities that allow physicians to get advanced training under the new system.

Also at the Congress in Kazan there were discussed such important issues as cardiac care improvement, including urgent help in acute coronary syndrome and other medical emergencies; modern achievements of basic medicine and new medical technologies based on their implementation; modern aspects of surgical and interventional treatment of cardiovascular diseases; perspectives of transplantology and regenerative medicine, and many other topics. Totally at the meeting 170 scientific sessions, 127 symposia, 11 educational schools, 4 workshops, 3 discussion clubs, 3 round tables, 12 plenary and 9 debates and how to sessions were organized.

Every year specialists of Tyumen Cardiology Center take part in the Congress and share with colleagues their experience and researches results of various cardiology issues. This year Natalia Khorkova, MD spoke about radiofrequency catheter ablation in the treatment of atrial fibrillation. Cardiologist of arterial hypertension department Nina Shurkevich, MD told us: “Colleagues and I are pleased with the work at the Congress, we systemized our knowledge, clarified complicated issues, took a lot of scientific literature. We also attended sessions on the latest recommendations for arterial hypertension treatment, it is important for us, because our work is based on the most modern approaches. The Congress was organized well and we liked Kazan for sure. It is a beautiful city with many historical places and interesting sightseeings, it is a city of intelligent and educated people, who are pleasant to work and communicate with.” Doctor of ultrasound diagnostics department Elena Yaroslavskaya, MD says: “I have attended all sessions on echocardiography. A report devoted to drawbacks of statements in medical records was especially memorable.
