Description

On March 9-11, 2013 the 62nd Scientific Session of the American College of Cardiology (ACC), one of the most important medical scientific events, took place in San Francisco, USA. On the final day of the Congress, the ACC annual Convocation welcomed new Fellows, among them there was Director of Tyumen Cardiology Center Prof. Vadim Kuznetsov.

The American College of Cardiology is the world`s oldest and most distinguished society of cardiovascular professionals numbering more than 43,000 members. At the present time it is a leader in the formulation of health policy, standards and guidelines, and a steadfast supporter of cardiovascular research. As ever the ACC Congress attracted tens of thousands of attendees from more than 100 countries from around the globe. Over 2,100 original researches went through the serious selection process to be presented at the meeting. Among them there were only 6 posters from Russia, including 1 from Tyumen. The key topic of ACC 2013 was “From discovery to delivery”. The focus was on the impact of innovation and science on the delivery of quality care and the prevention of cardiovascular disease in patients.

For more than half a century, the American College of Cardiology annually has been admitting to their family outstanding clinicians and scientists, recognized in their communities, who have made significant contributions to the scientific literature. It is not easy to become a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology, especially for applicants not from the USA. Candidates should meet stringent qualifications of the ACC and have considerable clinical or scientific achievements. During several months a special committee of the ACC considers candidates` applications and documents and elects those most worthy. Being granted this title is a great honor and very important event for specialists. To date there are less than 10 leading cardiologists in Russia who have been granted a fellowship of the ACC , including academicians Evgeniy I. Chazov, Evgeniy V. Shlyakhto and now Prof. Vadim A. Kuznetsov.

Apart from participation in the convocation, Prof. Kuznetsov delivered two scientific presentations in San Francisco. He talked about new method of treating hypertrophic cardiomyopathy at the 29th International Conference on Recent Advances in Echocardiography and Allied Techniques and presented a poster on combination of isometric exercise and emotional stress echocardiography for detection of coronary artery disease at the 62nd Scientific Session of the ACC. Tyumen cardiological science was rated highly by experts of the world community.
