International Congress of Cardiology: Results in Figures and Facts

Three days of interesting symposia, brilliant discussions, workshops and virtual meetings: "Cardiology at a Crossroads of Sciences" traditional May congress was held online on May 25-27.

The event brought together 1620 registered participants from 181 cities and 10 countries of the world. 97 lecturers presented 127 reports. Scientific program was spacious, included 17 symposia with participation of international experts, scientists, clinicians, young professionals.

On the first day of the Congress, reports on cardiogenetics were presented: scientists discussed  issues on genetic predisposition to cardiac diseases; dyslipidemia; risk factors and difficulties in assessing the prognosis of sudden cardiac death; diagnosis of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy; new perspectives in arrhythmology: advantages and possibilities of His bundle stimulation;  experience of implantation of subcutaneous cardioverter defibrillators in the Russian Federation; remote monitoring of patients with implantable devices; as well as characteristics of cardiac diseases in Arctic inhabitants. Next symposium on echocardiography and vascular ultrasound was successfully greeted by colleagues, chaired by Vadim Anatolyevich Kuznetsov, MD, PhD, FESC, FACC, FISCU, Professor of Cardiology, Scientific Supervisor of Tyumen Cardiology Research Center, Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation and Alla Aleksandrovna Boschenko, MD, PhD, Deputy Director for research work of Cardiology Research Institute.

On the second day of online Congress, participants discussed new circumstances in performing echocardiography (Cardiac ultrasound) of patients with coronavirus infection; innovative technologies of ultrasonic devices, allowing to increase accuracy of researches and predictability of results; issues on pediatric cardiology; possibilities of treatment, rehabilitation and prevention of patients with arterial hypertension during the COVID-19 pandemic and personalized approach to treatment of patients with atrial fibrillation, as one of the most dangerous heart rhythm disorders that can cause serious heart problems and stroke development.

Symposia of the third day of the Congress on percutaneous coronary interventions, emergency cardiology, and issues on vascular imaging attracted attention of audience.

Poster presentations are annually important part of our scientific program. 36 posters from 10 cities and 3 countries were presented in electronic video format.

Victor V. Todosiychuk, MD, PhD, Leading Scientific Researcher of our Center, Chairman of poster presentation competition, summing up results, mentioned, that all study projects presented were at high level and dealt with relevant topics on clinical and experimental cardiology, diagnosis of coronary artery disease and arterial hypertension, improvement of outpatient care, telemedicine, blood pressure monitoring during self-isolation. Much attention was also paid to laboratory and genetic researches. The entire range of participants' works reflected issues of modern cardiology.  According to results of competition, Yaskevich R. took the first place. (Krasnoyarsk), the second place was deservedly taken by Nishonov A.B. (Kemerovo), the third place was shared by Kologrivova I.  (Tomsk) and Matskevich S. (Minsk).

Elena I. Yaroslavskaya, MD, PhD, Chairman of Competition for Young Scientists, Head of Laboratory of Instrumental Diagnostics of our Center, declared results of the competition for young scientists, which was also held as part of the Congress. She told that section was very successful and it had been not easy to choose winners from such valuable participants. Jury assessed 9 reports from 6 cities. Votes were distributed as follows: A.M. Boyko got the first place according to the voting results. (Tomsk), the second place was shared by Yu.D. Lukyanchik. (Tyumen) and Spirina O.V. (Minsk), third place was taken by Gakova A.A. (Tyumen). Incentive prize for participation was received by A.A. Mudrov. (Novosibirsk)

It should be mentioned that 155 abstracts were included in collection of Congress Proceedings. At virtual exhibition with participation of 22 pharmaceutical companies, modern achievements in diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases were presented.
