Vadim Anatolevich Kuznetsov, MD, PhD, FESC, FACC, FISCU, Professor of Cardiology, Scientific Supervisor of Tyumen Cardiology Research Center – Branch of Tomsk National Research Medical Center, Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation, left this world. Tyumen Cardiology Research Center team expresses condolences to relatives, numerous colleagues and friends of Vadim Anatolevich. This is huge sorrow for all of us.

The whole biography of Kuznetsov V.A. is inextricably connected with Tyumen Cardiology Research Center history.
Competence, brilliant erudition, energetics, special view to something new, talent of researcher and at the same time preservation of valuable accumulated experience are traits that characterize V.A. Kuznetsov as a brilliant scientist, leader, mentor, a person who was really worried about the future.



His thoughts and activities will continue in his followers. Vadim Anatolyevich was a real Master who earned authority, respect, titles and regalia with his whole life! We deeply grieve.

About Vadim Anatolyevich:
V.A. Kuznetsov was born in Novosibirsk, where he graduated with honors from Novosibirsk Medical Institute, then completed internship as district general practitioner at Berdsk City Hospital, ended his postgraduate study at State Research Institute of Therapy, Siberian Branch of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences. He worked as Internal Medicine lecturer at medical college (Berdsk). In 1986 he defended his Ph.D. thesis on ‘Methods of echocardiography in the diagnosis of pathology of the coronary arteries, valvular apparatus of the heart in patients with coronary artery disease’, then his doctoral dissertation in March 1993. In 1995 he was awarded the title of Professor by Higher Attestation Commission of the Russian Federation. In 2007, by the decree of the President of the Russian Federation, Kuznetsov V.A. was awarded the honorary title ‘Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation’for merits in scientific activity.
Vadim Anatolyevich worked at the Tyumen Cardiology Research Center since 1988: from October 1988 to March 1991 as Deputy Director for Research, from April 1991 to 2017 - as the Director.

Under the leadership of Professor V. Kuznetsov, scientific school for the development and implementation of new methods of instrumental diagnostics and interventional treatment in cardiology, based on the study of the fundamental laws of the etiology and pathogenesis of cardiovascular diseases was formed in Tyumen region. The scientist's innovative work in the field of ultrasound diagnostics attracted attention of Russian and foreign colleagues, which lay the foundation for the organization of Russian branch of International Society for Cardiovascular Ultrasound (RBISCU) on the basis of Tyumen Cardiology Research Center in 2004 with prof. Kuznetsov V.A. election as the Chairman.

Under the leadership of Vadim Anatolyevich, our center's surgeons were one of the first in Russia, who used high-tech interventions, allowing our institution to change approaches to treatment of cardiac pathology patients at high quality standards. Applying percutaneous transluminal balloon angioplasty on a 24-hours basis, our center’s team was able to reduce significantly mortality rate among patients with myocardial infarction.
Our center has been also known for its achievements in treatment of complex cardiac arrhythmias and congestive heart failure. In 2003, the first surgery of biventricular pacemaker implantation was performed in Tyumen. Cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) has allowed curing effectively critically ill patients, who could only have been saved by complex heart transplant surgery several years ago.
In hard times for our country and for medicine in particular, Vadim Anatolyevich managed to ensure stable working process of our institution and preserve its scientific potential, to do everything for the center to flourish and develop. Having gone through various stages of formation and development, today Tyumen Cardiology Research Center is rightfully considered one of the leading specialized scientific and medical institutions in the country. Scientific works and clinical experience are highly appreciated not only by experts in Russia, but also abroad. About 50,000 people with cardiovascular diseases receive medical care here every year. In 2011, according to the results of the National Award "Purple Heart", our Center was recognized as the best medical institution in Russia.
V.A. Kuznetsov was a wise mentor and teacher; over the years of his work, Vadim Anatolyevich taught and trained many physicians and scientists working in Russian and foreign clinics. In 2014, Vadim Anatolyevich was recognized as the laureate of the first Prize of the National Medical Chamber in ‘My mentor’ nomination for significant pedagogical contribution.

Vadim Anatolyevich had great experience in research and organizational skills:
- co-author of more than 1000 scientific research available in Russian and foreign publications, 9 patents for invention,
- scientific supervisor of 20 candidate and 5 doctoral dissertations,
- invited lecturer for international conferences and congresses (more than 200 lectures and reports were presented, more than 50 of which were given abroad),
- Organizer and President of more than 20 Annual ‘Cardiology update’International Conferences were conducted by our Center (1994-2016).
Vadim Anatolyevich Kuznetsov was the chairman of Tyumen branch of Russian Society of Cardiology (RSC), the chairman of Board of Tyumen regional branch of ‘Society of Heart Failure Specialists’ all-Russian public organization, a member of the Board of ‘Cardiovascular Prevention and Rehabilitation’ National Scientific Society, honorary fellow of European Society of Cardiology (ESC) , American College of Cardiology (ACC), International Society for Cardiovascular Ultrasound (ISCU), member of European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (EACVI), Chairman of the Board of Russian branch of EACVI. He was a member of the editorial board of scientific journals: ‘Polish Journal of Cardiology’, ‘Atherosclerosis’, ‘Functional Diagnostics’, ‘Problems of Women's Health’, ‘Siberian Medical Journal’, reviewer for the following periodicals: Echocardiography (Blackwell Futura Publishing, Inc.) and ‘European Heart Journal - Cardiovascular Imaging’ (Oxford University Press).

He was repeatedly awarded with certificates of honor of the Government of Tyumen Region, Department of Healthcare of Tyumen Region, and Tyumen city Administration. Professor Kuznetsov had gratitude from the Minister of Healthcare of the Russian Federation.
Professor V.A. Kuznetsov was conducting not only spacious scientific and organizational, but also social activities. He initiated several significant events. For example, he held the first ‘Poetry Contest’ among the city's medical workers, the first All-Russian Contest ‘Affairs of the Heart’, ‘Music Ring’ contest (creative competition with a group of the Tyumen Region Hospital), and ‘Heart-to-heart Football Match’ between postsurgical patients and surgeons. V.A. Kuznetsov translated songs of famous musical groups into Russian. He sang and played the guitar in ‘Rhythms of the Heart’ vocal and instrumental ensemble of our Center and gave ballroom dancing lessons for colleagues. He published three poetry collections, prepared a story collection for publication.
