Yulia Lykianchik, postgraduate student, Junior Scientific Researcher of Tyumen Cardiology Research Center, branch of Tomsk NRMC, “As a student I eagerly wanted to make a great discovery, to create something new, outstanding. Today my goals in science are more pragmatic. In the first place, I would like to find answers to the questions appeared within every day practical work”.

“As a student, I came to Tyumen Cardiology Research Center to do scientific work and got acquainted with Tatiana V. Chernysheva, Honored Doctor of the Russian Federation, Head of Pediatric Department. She helped me to choose the investigation field, showed me the doctors’ work and later became my research supervisor. I was very impressed by the work of the department and the entire Center – which is the branch of the biggest academic medical center of Russian Academy of Sciences. Since that time I have wanted to build my career (research and clinical) in this Center”.

“Being a scientist is very interesting but complicated at the same time. Science is constant progress. Postgraduates combine scientific research and clinical practice. It leads to a high lack of time, so I advise all students that it is important to manage priorities in order to understand which activities are really paramount and perspective. Students have to plan their schedule to use every day to progress in their work. Modern scientist has to know English language as well to study foreign colleagues’ works, professional literature in the original, to listen to the latest achievements at the international conferences”.

“Postgraduate studies give opportunity to do science, to perform at the conferences, to go info expeditions. Colleagues and I visited a small settlement in the North twice to perform complex examination of teenagers to reveal heart work in the subarctic climate conditions. Expeditions are precious experience in non-standard places and team work”.

“Now my scientific interest lies in the study of the impact of highly intensive professional sport and climate on the cardiovascular system of young sportsmen. Now a lot of children and teenagers are doing sports and get high level of physical and psycho emotional load on the growing organisms, so there is high risk of pathological changes of cardiovascular system. That is why it is so important to reveal and correct pre-pathological changes of cardiac function”.
