At the end of 2023, our center received a Presidential decree on conferring an honorary title for achievements in healthcare and many years of conscientious work pertaining Grigory Vladimirovich Kolunin, MD, PhD, interventional cardiologist, the Head of the Department of X-Ray Endovascular Diagnostics and Treatment # 2, Senior Scientific Researcher.
Grigory Vladimirovich’s work experience is more than 22 years. After graduating from the Tyumen State Medical Academy, he completed our center residency and was enrolled in the department X-Ray Endovascular Diagnostics and Treatment. He successfully defended his Ph.D. thesis and then patented a method of chronic heart failure treatment in several years. Since 2011, he has became the Head of the Department of X-Ray Endovascular Diagnostics and Treatment # 2 and supervised the work on high-tech surgical interventions of cardiac conduction system.
The field of his professional and scientific interests is heart rhythm disorders, interventional treatment of heart rhythm disorders, implantable devices at heart rhythm disorders, prevention of sudden cardiac death, congestive heart failure treatment, also interventional treatment of lower extremity arteriosclerosis obliterans.
During his professional career, he organized and, virtually from scratch, brought interventional arrhythmologic care to a high level in our Research Center. He was one of the first in Russia who performed CRT procedures to treat chronic heart failure. Nowadays, in the world at large, these operations are the gold standard in the treatment of chronic heart failure in patients with ventricular dyssynchrony. He mastered and introduced methods of chronic heart failure treatment and sudden cardiac death prevention into clinical practice in our Cardiology Research Center. Currently, our Cardiology Center is a leader in these directions.
More than 12,000 surgeries on cardiac arrhythmias treatment were performed by him and his colleagues during the time he was heading the department. At the same time, the number of complications associated with surgical intervention was no more than 1-1.5%. G.V Kolunin and his colleagues from the department have been leaders in the number of thanks and positive reviews for many years from patients who underwent surgical treatment at our Center. G.V Kolunin has been actively working under introduction of up-to-date methods and protocols for atrial fibrillation treatment, which is one of the most common cardiac arrhythmias. Now the department headed by Grigory Vladimirovich is actively mastering the method of Stimulation of the His bundle (His bundle pacing).
Since 2021, Grigory Vladimirovich Kolunin began to use the most modern and progressive methods of surgical intervention in his work, such as endovascular, surgical correction of cardiac arrhythmias, cardioverter-defibrillator with and without implantation, modulation of cardiac contractility, endovascular occlusion of the left atrial appendage, surgical treatment of chronic cardiac insufficiency, surgical and endovascular correction of diseases of great arteries.
During the coronavirus pandemic, as department of G.V. Kolunin as our center in total did not stop its professional responsibilities even for a day. Taking all preventive measures, both elective and urgent surgical interventions were performed in patients with cardiac arrhythmias. Situations of possible admission for surgical intervention in the department of patients with a positive COVID-19 infection were worked out.
G.V. Kolunin participates in scientific and educational events, gives reports and lectures for colleagues, young professionals, and students. He frequently took part in internships in leading centers of Russia and abroad. Over 90 scientific projects, of which about 70 were in domestic press and about 30 - international press, were published. He constantly presented results of his work in the form of oral presentations at congresses of cardiovascular surgeons, interventional arrhythmologists, and congresses of the Society of Heart Failure Specialists.
He has received many awards and merit recognition from Healthcare Department, Administration of Tyumen Region, Tyumen City Duma, Administration of the City of Tyumen, Department of Education and Science of the Tyumen Region, etc. for his achievements in profession. Our center team congratulates Grigory Vladimirovich on receiving such the honorary and well-deserved title for personal merit of successful combination of professional practical medical functions with effective scientific work in the field of medicine!
