In conditions of extraordinary circumstances of the epidemic, infection rate of surgeons and nurses is especially high: they have close contact with patients and can easily be infected. In order to protect themselves and colleagues, scientists and surgeons of our research centre together with specialists of the Tyumen State University have upgraded snorkeling mask. It will more effectively defend staff during surgery in patients infected with coronavirus.

Snorkeling mask was took as a base due to its key peculiarity - tightness and supplemented with special detail – an adapter in which filters were inserted from artificial lung ventilation apparatus. The adapter was 3d printed. By combining all parts, hybrid mask was got for better protection against possible contamination.

We borrowed the idea from our foreign colleagues, who were the first in such protective measures. Our interventional cardiologist, Ivan Bessonov, MD, PhD, offered to turn this idea into reality, and the team of Creative Production Lab from the Tyumen State University helped to design and print the necessary part - adapter between the mask and filters.
Andranik Sevoyan, chairman of our Council of Young Scientists and Specialists considered that this had been still not enough, and now we should think about how to decontaminate the mask, because it was made not only of plastic, but also silicone parts.

It should be mentioned that in the context of coronavirus, our working arrangement includes not only instruction and training of staff in compliance with all safety procedures, but also preventive work with patients. In our medical center, all possible measures to prevent the spread of infection are applied.
