Global Science Forum: Changing the landscape in Cardiovascular Care was held in Berlin on 1-2 of March.
Tatiana P. Gizatulina, MD, PhD, a cardiologist, Senior Scientific Researcher of Arrhythmology Department made a poster presentation reflected the study results in our patients with atrium fibrillation hospitalized to radiofrequency ablation treatment from 2014 to 2017.
“Our analysis showed that echocardiography (ultrasound examination of the heart) provides additional predictors of the increased risk of thrombosis of left atrial appendage. These factors do not enter a risk assessment traditional scale of thromboembolic complications (CHA2DS2-VASc), which is applied in all current atrium fibrillation treatment recommendations. The generated model includes three predictors: stability of atrium fibrillation, diameter of the left atrium and specific geometric type of left ventricle - eccentric hypertrophy.
The first two factors are traditionally associated with the risk of this arrhythmia, but existence of left ventricle eccentric hypertrophy is a finding of our study. Such type of heart geometry increases risk of thrombosis by 4.2 times, and risk of a stroke as well.” - noted Tatiana Gizatulina.
Our scientist mentioned that presentation met great interest among colleagues
“The forum program was saturated and relevant. It included the lectures of leading cardiology experts on problems of atrium fibrillation and heart failure treatment from the USA, Canada, the Great Britain, Singapore and other countries, - told the scientist; - there were comorbid with atrium fibrillation states problems highlighted. For example, chronic kidney disease, oncological diseases
The huge response was caused by a panel discussion about formed trends in the field of clinical trials in treatment of cardiovascular diseases. Data on new drugs were provided.”
Already on March 17-19 Tatiana Gizatulina and her colleagues are going to take part in the annual Congress of the European Heart Rhythm Association (EHRA) in Portugal.
