About 700 participants, 100 faculties from 40 countries took part in the Conference.
Tatiana Petelina, MD, PhD, Senior Scientific Researcher of the Department of Arterial Hypertension of Tyumen Cardiology Research Center had 3 poster presentations at the meeting.
The results of our research showed that the level of sex hormones in postmenopausal women is associated with the lesion of target organs and changing of blood vessels walls flexibility. In this period physiological and age-specific changes start, and the incidence rate of diseases grows. Having laboratory data, physicians can predict the type of possible cardiovascular complications, rank patients among high-risk group and correct their treatment. Another research of our specialists proved that increase of total cholesterol level in patients with arterial hypertension and abdominal obesity leads to the decrease of blood vessels walls flexibility that is one of the reasons for heart diseases and other health problems.
Right after the Conference, on April 22, an annual marathon in support of children with cardiac arrhythmia took place in Vienna. Russian athletes ran almost 43 kilometers through the streets of Vienna to draw attention to the problem of sudden cardiac arrest in children and adolescents in Russia. The tragedy of this syndrome is connected with the fact that in most cases sudden cardiac arrest occurs outside the walls of medical clinics. Anybody can suffer from it, even outwardly healthy person, being at work, in a store, on vacation, during sports, etc. In many foreign countries, automatic external defibrillators (AED) are already installed in every crowded place - devices that make it possible to "start up" a stopped heart even by people without medical education.
Tyumen Cardiology Research Center also has a special AED learning course: it takes only some hours to learn how to use AED.
