All-Russian scientific-practical conference

Today, All-Russian scientific-practical conference “X-ray endovascular treatment of complex coronary artery disease” has started. Experienced physicians and young specialists fr om Moscow, Tyumen, Yekaterinburg, St. Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Kaliningrad and other cities will discuss treatment methods of complex coronary vessel lesions within two days.

Bagrat Alekyan, Senior Non-Staff Specialist of X-ray Endovascular Diagnostics and Treatment of Ministry of Healthcare of the Russian Federation noted that there was a real breakthrough over the last decade: 140 vascular care centers were opened throughout the country, used more than 50% of drug-eluting stents, 80% of surgeries were performed using the radial artery, the number of stent placement procedures and coronary angiographies increased tenfold (104 741 studies were performed in 2008; 434 608 - in 2017; 5027 stent placement procedures in the Urals Federal district in 2008; 19 417 - in 2017). Nowadays, patients with an acute myocardial infarction arrive to specialized facilities where they have immediate medical care within 1-2 hours fr om a heart attack start. All centers are equipped with high-tech apparatus, so physicians can quickly determine an infarction localization, to find a blocked vessel, remove the plaque from it, and put a stent.

Using conservative treatment, an acute myocardial infarction mortality is 20-25%. However, a coronary artery stent technology allows to achieve mortality reduction. Stenting is a minimally invasive procedure. A person can start working the next day after surgery. Unfortunately, there are situations wh ere it is impossible without performing a coronary artery bypass grafting. In any case, a personalized approach is needed: each patient has his/her own indications and contraindications, recommendations. Nowadays, it is important to improve a patient flow distribution, because the majority of patients need a stent placement procedure.

This treatment method was introduced into practice in Tyumen among the first in Russia. It implements not only in cardiology, but also in neurology, oncology, urology, everywhere we can reach an organ through a vessel.
