On 24 of November students specializing in machine education in medicine of Stanford US-Russia Forum (SURF) visited Tyumen Cardiology Research Center.

Scientists and cardiologists of the Center presented their patented IT-designs in cardiology. Students were invited into the operation room of Department of X-ray and Surgery Methods of Diagnostics and Treatment №1 where surgeons perform hi-tech interventions to patients with cardiovascular diseases. An international scale “Syntax Score” is being used for estimation the condition of a patient with acute myocardial infarction and choosing an optimal treatment. Here American guests also got to know how and why an automatic system of expensive consumables is used. Ivan Bessonov, MD, PhD, an interventional cardiologist, demonstrated database “Register of the performed coronary angiographies” which contains information on 21 000 patients. It is one of the largest medical databases in Russia.

Elena Yaroslavskaya, MD, PhD, an ultrasound specialist, described to the visitors an invention called “Medical calculator”. It is a non-invasive, affordable and accurate method being invented at the Center and now used for diagnostics of cardiovascular diseases.

Brian Cheng, a 4-year student of Northwestern University, highlighted that he was really surprised with the information technologies in cardiology and the cooperation of a doctor and a patient in Tyumen. He said, “I am absolutely sure that health care is the key to build a dialogue between Russia and the USA. Because health is main treasure for all people so issues from this area can only unite. Personalization, which is so relevant in America, is being developed also here and for sure will help to improve joint work for people’s health.”

Young investigators are studying potential of business in health care, finance, possibilities of cooperation in the space area. Investigations of the SURF scientists will continue up to the end of the academic year. By April 2018 they will prepare the final projects and present them to the governments of their countries.
