X-ray surgeons fr om Tyumen Cardiology Research Center returned fr om Washington, where from 29 October to 2 November 2016 annual Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics (TCT-2016) Meeting of the Cardiovascular Research Foundation took place. More than 10 thousand participants from all over the world got acquainted with the latest achievements in endovascular and roentgenosurgery, visited workshops of outstanding experts, wh ere they took training on innovation equipment.
Leading specialists of Tyumen Cardiology Research Center Igor Zyryanov, MD, PhD, Head of Department of X-ray and Surgery Methods of Diagnostics and Treatment №1, Honored Doctor of the Russian Federation, Ivan Bessonov, MD, Scientific Researcher, and Stanislav Sapozhnikov, an interventional cardiologist, presented their work at the congress.
Ivan Bessonov told, “Since 2006 we have examined data of more than a thousand patients who have high blood sugar level and acute myocardial infarction. During acute myocardial infarction period people who have hyperglycemia run risk of complications. In order to improve treatment results, reduce complications risk and mortality, my colleagues and I proposed a method of direct stenting - a percutaenous coronarography intervention when a stent is installed as quickly as possible in affected coronary artery, pressing thrombotic mass.” Research results were presented at the congress in a poster format. The work of Tyumen scientists sparked an interesting discussion among Russian and foreign colleagues.
Furthermore, Tyumen specialists presented a complicated clinical case: during stenting unopened stent has "slipped" from balloon and stayed inside the artery. “This situation is quite rare, but it may lead to serious complications. We offered a method, a kind of technique that can solve this problem. Not all specialists know how to deal with such episodes. Of course, it requires high professional level. Our patients can be sure that we have all necessary skills and experience.”- noted Ivan Bessonov. This clinical case was recognized as the best one and awarded a special diploma at the All-Russian Summit on Coronary Complications "SCC-2016" (S. Sapozhnikov, interventional cardiologist of Department of X-ray and Surgery Methods of Diagnostics and Treatment, presented this case). The congress included workshops, broadcasts from operating rooms, demonstration of recent achievements in the field of medical robotics. Tyumen surgeons under the auspices of experts performed some stenting surgeries on special simulators. The Congress also presented capabilities of robots which may help doctors a lot in the future.
All TCT-2016 participants agreed that it was one of the most productive conferences of the whole year. It is the best “guide” both for young specialists and experienced surgeons. Let’s remind that some time ago Tyumen physicians attended the first operation wh ere unique bioresorbable scaffold, which has an ability to "disappear" in coronary artery, was used. The technique has been successfully implemented and widely used in Tyumen Cardiology Research Center for coronary heart disease treatment.
