Several days ago a 68-year-old woman was admitted to Tyumen Cardiology Center with complaints to severe pain in the chest, left hand and weakness. Upon performing of all necessary examinations the patient had an operation referred to complicated high-risk interventions. Now when the worst moments are over she confesses that an operation day has become her second birthday.
Stanislav Sapozhnikov, a surgeon of Department of X-ray and Surgery Methods of Diagnostics and Treatment №1, told, “Performed interventions (balloon angioplasty and stenting) in this case were complicated by severe arteries involvement. This problem has not shown itself for a long time, but due to various factors abrupt progression of atherosclerotic process has happened. A plaque has increased in size, it was probably bursting. The damage affected left main coronary artery which is the main vessel feeding cardiac muscle and giving start to other big arteries. In such a condition main arterial lines are not able to supply blood to heart and a patient needs urgent medical care otherwise he may die. Operation lasted 2 hours and was successful.”
The saved patient shared her feelings, “If you compare my condition before and after the operation, it is like night and day. Now I am going to be followed up by a cardiologist and take medications. Soon I am having another operation. Thanks to a team of physicians from Tyumen Cardiology Center for giving me a chance for the second life.”
