Traditionally on September 29 many countries celebrate World Heart Day initiated by World Health Organization (WHO). Tyumen Cardiology Center is involved in the realization of the scale project and holds annual social campaigns aimed at preventing cardiovascular disease among residents of Tyumen and the Tyumen region.

Heart Week 2015 took place from 21 to 26 September under the slogan "Do sports with healthy heart!" This year, cardiologists are turning to parents whose children are starting or already involved in sports. The campaign team of pediatricians headed by Tatyana Chernysheva, MD, cardiologist of the highest category, Honoured Doctor of the Russian Federation, chief pediatric cardiologist, Department of Health Administration of Tyumen, conducted a comprehensive survey of young athletes (a record electrocardiogram, echocardiographic examination and consultation with a specialist). «We recommend to parents for the first two years of training to carry out cardiac monitoring of their children for early detection and correction of changes in the heart muscle, which can be triggered by intense physical exertion. This survey includes ECG at rest, after load once per 6 months and after competition days and echocardiographic examination once per year. Early diagnosis allows to avoid serious problems in the future,» Tatiana says. 26 boys and girls aged 8-12, pupils of various Tyumen sports centers and schools (football, hockey, box, tennis, figure skating, gymnastics, etc.), were participants of the campaign.

Olga Khait, MD, cardiologist of the highest category, says, "We are often confronted with the fact that parents do not listen to our recommendations, although according to the indication of the doctor the child needs to reduce the load. You have to understand the difference between the amateur and professional sports. Basic conditions to start playing sports are no medical contraindications and desire. First of all a child needs to undergo a complete examination.”

Every year about 3,000 young patients receive medical care in the Advisory Department of Tyumen Cardiology Center.
