08 April 2015, WednesdayWorld Health Day, initiated by World Health Organization, was the reason for meeting with mass media representatives from Tyumen and Tyumen region.
Vladimir Putin proposed to declare 2015 the year of fighting with cardiovascular diseases. Today scientists, cardiologists, healthcare representatives and authorities are joining efforts to solve this problem. Specialists still consider primary prevention the main and efficient way to anticipate heart diseases.
Nina Shurkevich, MD, PhD, Leading Scientific Researcher, a cardiologist of the Department of Arterial Hypertension of Tyumen Cardiology Center, was an expert at the conference. She has been dealing with issues of prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases during 30 years.
Dr. Shurkevich drew journalists’ attention to risk factors of cardiovascular diseases progress. She divided them into social such as smoking, alcohol, physical inactivity and low education level; biological such as hypertension, high cholesterol and sugar level; obesity. By the end of the 20th century energy consumption has become lower due to office work, driving, lift using habit. All these factors lead to strokes, infarction, arthronosos and congestive renal diseases.
In conclusion, Nina Shurkevich highlighted, ‘Role of mass media in cardiovascular prevention is huge. Communication channels increase population knowledge, but these efforts are not enough. To gain results it is necessary to reinforce cooperation among doctors, authorities, business and mass media.’
After press-conference all the participants were invited for complex examination of their cardiovascular system.
