In the annual Presidential Address to the Federal Assembly Vladimir Putin proposed to declare 2015 the National Year of Fighting Cardiovascular Diseases. Prof. Vadim Kuznetsov, Director of Tyumen Cardiology Center, highlighted that cardiologists were glad and inspired by the President’s decision to pay attention to this problem. The statistics shows that all diseases together cause less death rate than cardiovascular diseases. The forthcoming year will be special for Tyumen Cardiology Center because in May 2015 it will be 30th anniversary since its foundation. All these years our Center combines clinical, research and educational work. At the New Year’s Eve the results of the year were summarized here.

Clinic
This year interventional cardiologists performed around 5500 high-tech operations to the patients with coronary artery disease, arrhythmia, and congestive heart failure. 8600 people underwent treatment in the inpatients department. Around 50000 people from Tyumen, South of Tyumen region and other cities of Russia were provided with treatment in the outpatients department.

Science
In 2014 specialists of Tyumen Cardiology Center published 40 articles (including 39 in the peer-reviewed journals of national analytic base Russian Science Citation Index (RSCI) and 16 were published in the journals of international analytic base Web of Science. Also 182 abstracts were published including 23 in the foreign editions. Seven Ph.D. theses were successfully defended this year. Two patents on the invention of new diagnostic methods of coronary artery diseases were received.

Innovations
In November 2014 interventional cardiologists of the Center implanted innovative coronary stent which is completely resolved in the artery after several months. This technology is called the fourth revolution in stenting. Mikhail Semukhin and Vitaliy Chuvychelov made the first operations in Tyumen Cardiology Center. The same month specialists of ultrasound diagnostic department applied echo contrast which gives an opportunity to expand imaging and to see things which are not possible to see by conventional and stress echocardiography.

Conferences
Our specialists took part in 63 Russian and international conferences including 24 foreign meetings and made 188 oral and 72 poster presentations.On 21-23 May Tyumen Cardiology Center hold the V International Congress “Cardiology at a Crossroad of Sciences”. The meeting gathered around 600 participants from 9 countries and 34 cities of Russia. Outstanding scientists from USA, Germany, the Netherlands, Israel and other countries of the world delivered lectures. Prof. Nelson Schiller, Head of Cardiology Department of University of California Medical Center (San-Francisco, USA), a famous worldwide legend of echocardiography, became an honorable guest of the Congress.In February the 20th Academic Council devoted to the Day of Russian Science was held in Tyumen Cardiology Center for the first time. Evgeny Shlyakhto, President of Russian Society of Cardiology, Member of Russian Academy of Sciences, Rostislav Karpov, Director of Research Institute for Cardiology, Member of Russian Academy of Sciences and Prof. Vadim Kuznetsov delivered lectures.

Awards and achievements
In 2014 Tatiana Chernyshova, a pediatric doctor, became an Honorable Doctor of the Russian Federation according to the decree of V. Putin, the President of Russia.Prof. Vadim Kuznetsov, Director of Tyumen Cardiology Center, was declared a winner of the National Medical Chamber Award in the nomination “My Mentor”. Doctors, scientists, organizations from 67 regions of Russia (there were around 450 applications) took part in the competition. Ivan Bessonov, an interventional cardiologist, was one of the three winners in the nomination “Career”. The awarding ceremony took place in April in Moscow.On 24-26 September in Kazan the awarding ceremony of Russian Society of Cardiology for outstanding achievements in cardiology took place within the Russian National Congress. Ekaterina Akimova, MD, PhD, Head of Tyumen Cardiology Center Laboratory for Epidemiology and Prevention of Cardiovascular Diseases, was awarded with winner diploma for the contribution into organization of preventive programs aimed at decrease of cardiovascular diseases incidence and death rate in Russia.In February Anna Kozhurina, MD, a specialist of ultrasound diagnostic department, received a Certificate of the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (EACVI) which proves her competency to perform, interpret, and report routine transthoracic echocardiographic studies. EACVI Certificate provides formal acknowledgement to specialists and European recognition, governed by a scientific society. Only 2 specialists in Russia have such Certificate and Anna became the third one.

Campaigns
In August a preventive campaign “Step out for your heath” took place under the federal project and support of the European Council. More than 90 citizens of Tyumen underwent free express-examination and took part in a preventive walk with cardiologists.In September a Healthy Heart Day was held in Tyumen. It is annually organized by Tyumen Cardiology Center. During the campaign doctors of Tyumen and South cities of the Tyumen region underwent free examination at Tyumen Cardiology Center.
