On 21-23 May the V International Congress “Cardiology at a Crossroad of Sciences” will be held in Tyumen. The participants fr om different cities of Russia and foreign countries will discuss the latest research and advances in global cardiology.
The Opening Ceremony will take place on the 21st of May 2014 at 9.30 in the big conference hall of Tyumen Cardiology Center (111, Melnikaite Str., 625026, second floor).
In March 2013 the government of Tyumen region developed the activity plan of a new state project which aims to increase the efficiency of the whole health system. The project focuses on improving of living standards and life expectancy of the population. According to the official statistics the death rate in Tyumen region has decreased by 7.6% over the last years, while life expectancy of both men and women has increased. Owing to the efforts of the government and doctors, mortality from circulatory diseases has decreased by more than 10% in Russia. Nevertheless, cardiovascular diseases still remain one of the major social problems in our country.
Nowadays, the patients with heart diseases have an opportunity to receive timely effective treatment with the help of innovative technologies which are now being actively introduced in daily practice of Russian doctors. A few years ago people who had an acute myocardial infarction were considered to be beyond recovery, whereas today they have a real chance to live for many years and even get back to work. Thus, for example, interventional cardiologists of Tyumen Cardiology Center save extra 27 people’s lives every year due to employing catheter technologies.
On the forthcoming Congress in Tyumen cardiologists will summarize the results of work and will talk over primary lines of development of cardiology. The Congress “Cardiology at a Crossroads of Sciences” will be held for the fifth time. The title of the Forum shows that most of the cases of heart diseases are caused by concomitant diseases and require comprehensive approach to treatment. Therefore, the scientific themes of the Congress do not only concern the problems of cardiology – the lectures and reports presented on the Congress will be of interest to physicians of different specialties: cardiologists, endocrinologists, and pediatricians, specialists of functional, ultrasound or laboratory diagnostics, cardiovascular surgeons and emergency doctors.
Famous lecturers from the USA, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, Israel, Singapore and other countries will present their reports on the Congress this year. Co-president of the Congress is the world-famous scientist Professor Nelson B. Schiller, Chair of Cardiology Department of the University of California Medical Center (San Francisco, USA). He is well-known among Russian specialists as the cardiovascular ultrasound expert and the author of the manuscript for physicians “Clinical Echocardiography”. Lecturers from Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Tomsk, Novosibirsk, Omsk and Tyumen will cover the topics of problems and advances in Russian cardiology.
The audience will learn about novel approaches to the rehabilitation of patients after cardiac surgery from the report of Prof. Olga Barbarash (Kemerovo), the Director of Research Institute of Complex Issues of Cardiovascular Diseases of Siberian Branch of RAMS. The Head of Scientific Division of Clinical Cardiology of Tyumen Cardiology Center, National Expert on arterial hypertension Professor Ludmila Gapon will talk about prospects and achievements of treatment of patients with coronary artery disease. In the context of the Congress the symposium on pediatric arrhythmology will be held, the Chairpersons of which are Professor Eli Ovsyshcher, Director of the Electrophysiology Research Laboratory of Ben Gurion University (Israel) and Tatiana V. Chernysheva, MD, Pediatric Cardiologist of Tyumen Cardiology Center, Chief Pediatric Cardiologist of Tyumen Health Care Department. On this session the scientists will give lectures on capabilities of modern diagnostics, treatment and prevention of cardiac arrhythmia and cardiac conduction in children.
On the second and the third days of the Congress the sessions regarding endocrinology issues, development of arterial hypertension in men and women and up-to-date methods of treatment of congestive heart failure will take place. There will be concerned the topic of cardiac resynchronization therapy which is an alternative method to heart transplant surgery that saves lives of patients with severe pathology.
“The Congress mainly serves to the international cooperation. In the previous years, for example, it drew about 500 participants. It is hard to say how many specialists will attend the Congress this year; however, the number of requests is impressive. This experience helps us find new solutions to the heart problems”, - says the Director of Tyumen Cardiology Center, Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation, Professor Vadim Kuznetsov.

He is a legendary expert! He wrote the basic work of echocardiography (heart ultrasound). Basically, we learnt from his book and we still do. That is why we are so excited about the meeting with Professor Schiller”.
Apart from the scientific program, there is a diverse cultural program prepared for participants and guests which includes city tour, gastronomic tour, art exhibitions and museums. For the first time in the context of the Congress there will be a literary-musical section “Diagnosis: Poet” on the 22nd of May, wh ere talented doctors from different Russian cities will present poems and songs of their own composition for the guests of the Congress.

International meetings organized by Tyumen Cardiology Center usually draw over 500 participants from more than 50 subjects of the Russian Federation, as well as countries of near and far abroad (Austria, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Belarus, Germany, Italy, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Ukraine, Serbia, USA). Targets of the Congress, which remain unchanged over a period of five years, are the following: exchange of experience between Russian and foreign specialists, increasing level of proficiency of modern treatment methods and prevention of cardiovascular diseases, strengthen cooperation between specialists.
