The first in science

On December 6, 2013 the popular vote “35 successful ideas – 35 successful people” was summed up in Tyumen by the newspaper “Arguments & Facts in Western Siberia”, celebrating its 35 anniversary this year.


According to the rules of the contest the winners were chosen fr om the most successful citizens of Tyumen whose activity is of great social importance for the city and the region. For several weeks local residents have been voting for worthy candidates among which are public leaders, scientists, doctors, representatives of oil and gas industry, heads of charitable organizations and many others. Director of Tyumen Cardiology Center, Professor Vadim Kuznetsov received a majority of votes for Science.
The Awarding Ceremony was held in the festival hall of “Remezov” Hotel, wh ere the winners of the popular vote were awarded with presents and cups. In the interview with “Arguments & Facts in Western Siberia” Vadim Kuznetsov told: “I believe that my main achievement is my self-realization in life. As a result is the success of my projects, the main of which is Tyumen Cardiology Center and the creation of the research school in it. It is difficult to give an impartial assessment to scientific results. Science always needs time to see the significance of your work in proper perspective, as well as obtain the recognition of others, - explained Vadim Kuznetsov. – Just few days ago my paper was published in Russian Science Journal. The material for it was collected 15 years ago. However, it is still topical, maybe even more topical than before. Sometimes it happens that one invents something that is ahead of its time and becomes needed later on. But my main result is not in the demand for our research, but in the amount of lives saved. When I started working at Tyumen Cardiology Center myocardial infarction mortality rate was about 20%, and today it is half – 10%. Now we annually save 70 people more.”
