On 27 September the action which is traditionally held in Tyumen Cardiology Center in advance of Heart Day, came to an end. Cardiologists recommended Tyumen citizens to set their own sports records, consult an exercise therapy specialist and have an individual exercise with an instructor.

“Motto of Heart Week - 2013 – “Your Health is Your Record!” – was chosen in the run-up to the great sporting event – Winter Olympic Games 2014 in Sochi. Large-scale work is conducted in all regions of Russia. Under the impact of the Olympic Games the idea of making such an action for health improvement was born.” – Vladislav Smaznov, Deputy Director of Tyumen Cardiology Center elucidated.
During the week all Tyumen residents, who had got a consultation of a cardiologist, received 95% discount coupons for a consultation of an exercise therapy specialist and for one exercise with an instructor. Coupons are valid until the beginning of the Olympics – February 2014.
According to the survey conducted by the specialists of Tyumen Cardiology Center before the action, only 13% of 320 respondents are currently engaged in any sport activities. More than half of respondents performed exercises in the past or did not do them at all. In this vein the idea of the action becomes even more topical. “Most people don’t even realize that some sports can be contraindicative to them, - Tatiana Mitrofanova, Head of Exercise Therapy Division, told. – Once someone has decided to live a healthy lifestyle, he comes to a fitness club and starts doing all exercises at full scale. The result of such exercises often turns out to be regrettable. We keep meeting such patients: feeling bad they come to our center right after the training.”
Doctors tried to make the idea of necessity of medical consultation before physical training clear for the participants, and dispel the myth that exercise therapy is an insignificant activity.
“Many people think that exercise therapy is very simple, that one can come, sit down, wave his arms and legs and that’s all. Such people argue that they would better run 8 kilometers a day. But this is a fundamentally wrong approach, - another exercise therapist Svetlana Bykova explained. – It is considered that exercise therapy is also sport, a kind of “smart exercises”. It includes loads on different groups of muscles. It is an optimum alternative for those who try to keep fit and take care of their health. An exercise therapy specialist analyses all existing abnormalities both in cardiovascular and musculoskeletal system, up to sustained surgeries and injuries, - Tatiana A. Mitrofanova tells. – Therapist’s task is to assess the state of patient’s health and select load correctly, as in one case some exercises may be useful, in other – harmful.”
By the way, the first participants of the action were mass media reporters, who went through a required examination, got important medical advice and learned the importance of physical training at first hand.
“As my health is not perfect, so I was happy to undergo a check-up in Tyumen Cardiology Center, - Tyumen journalist Ksenia told. - Blood test, echocardiography, cardiologist’s and exercise therapist’s consultation seems to be not much only at first sight. The doctors communicated much new important information to me. Without haste and bustle they gave me a detailed account of everything that happens to my health and precious advice for future.”
It will be recalled that Heart Day is globally held on the last Sunday of September each year in partnership with the World Health Organization. Tyumen Cardiology Center regularly organizes preventive actions aimed to riveting society’s attention to cardiovascular diseases, popularization of healthy life-style and giving up harmful habits.
