ESC Congress 2013, the largest medical meeting in Europe, was held at Amsterdam, the Netherlands from 31 August to 4 September 2013. Physicians of Tyumen Cardiology Center presented 5 poster presentations at the meeting.


Professor Lyudmila I. Gapon, Head of Scientific Division of Clinical Cardiology, Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation and Tatiana V. Sereda, Deputy Head Physician, cardiologist of Outpatient Department made their presentations on 24-hour blood pressure profile and heart rate variability in patients with arterial hypertension and coronary artery disease in indigenous peoples of the Far North.
Professor Vadim A. Kuznetsov, Director of Tyumen Cardiology Center, Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation shared the results of the research performed together with European colleagues “Worldwide geographic differences of patients sel ected for cardiac resynchronization therapy”. The data were obtained from Panorama-Russia, a long term, prospective observational study. The analysis was based on more than 300 patients who were implanted with CRT devices. All baseline characteristics showed significant differences between the regions. Populations of CRT patients differed significantly in different geographic regions.
3 poster presentations were also made under the guidance of V.A. Kuznetsov by Polina Shebeko, scientific researcher of Instrumental Diagnostics Laboratory.
Prof. Alexander Yu. Rychkov, Deputy Director of Tyumen Cardiology Center, Head of Heart Rhythm Disturbances Department took an active part in the Congress. He told that the key highlights of the Congress included new recommendations about arterial hypertension treatment, chronic heart failure and coronary artery disease, implantable devices and other ways of treatment. “There were lots of interesting lectures, - A.Yu. Rychkov mentioned. – It was a pity that I couldn’t attend all of them. Sessions were held in 27 rooms at the same time, you know. The high point of Inaugural Session of ESC Congress 2013 was the presentation of the ESC Gold Medal to Academician Evgeniy I. Chazov, Russian cardiologist and public health administrator. Recognition of his outstanding achievements in diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases became a significant event for the Russian medical community and a great victory of the Russian Cardiology! I congratulate Evgeniy Chazov from the bottom of my heart!”
One other thing of note is that the ESC Congress is currently the world’s premier conference on the science, management and prevention of cardiovascular disease. It never fails to attract the world’s best cardiology professionals to come together to address the global cardiology issues that we are facing today. The Congress annually draws in excess of more than 30 000 attendees fr om numerous countries throughout Europe. It features approximately 4 000 presentations of brand-new investigations and 200 exhibiting companies. The spotlight of this year's event was “The Heart Interacting with Systemic Organs”. The next ESC Congress will take place on 30 August - 3 September 2014 in Barcelona, Spain.
