Tyumen cardiologists are among the best again

On October 3-5, 2012 the Russian National Congress of Cardiology will be held in Moscow. It is the most significant educational scientific and practical event for doctors. Within the forum the doctors will be rewarded for their outstanding achievements in cardiology. Nikolay Korotkov’s Award will be solemnly given to one of the doctors of Tyumen Cardiology Center.


For the first time Nikolay Korotkov’s Award (this award is named in honor of the doctor, who worked out the worldwide recognized method of measuring arterial blood pressure) will be given for outstanding achievements in prevention and treatment of arterial hypertension. The winner of the Award is Professor Lyudmila I. Gapon, MD, PhD, Head of Scientific Division of Clinical Cardiology of Tyumen Cardiology Center, Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation.
It should be noted that the Award of the Russian Society of Cardiology was established in summer 2012. “We have decided to highlight the achievements in practical cardiology which facilitate introduction of innovative researches and advanced methods of diagnostics, prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases in daily medical practice”, noted the President of the Award, Academician Evgeniy V. Shlyahto. “Moreover it is important to present the activity of the best specialists and promising projects, provide the opportunity for communication and exchange of experience between young specialists and leading cardiologists of our country”.
In general eight awards (Anatoliy Klimov’s Award, the Award for basic researches in cardiology, for contribution to the organization of preventive programmes, etc.) will be given within the Congress. The Awards are considered to be some sort of the highest recognition in cardiology. They consist of monetary compensation, sign of honor and winner’s diploma. The sign of honor is a sculpture made of bronze and rhinestone, which is associated with heart-shaped angel’s wings.
The Congress, which is organized by Russian Society of Cardiology under the auspices of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation and Russian Academy of Medical Sciences, really deserves attention.
Director of Tyumen Cardiology Center, Professor, Honored Scientist of the Russian Federation Vadim Kuznetsov will present his report in the section “Hot topics in cardiology” and tell the audience about differences in clinical manifestations of coronary artery disease and coronary atherosclerosis among ethnic groups with Christian and Muslim cultures in Tyumen region. The scientific researcher of the instrumental diagnostics laboratory of the Cardiology Center Elena I. Yaroslavskaya, MD will also present her report “Gender differences in patients with chronic mitral regurgitation and previous myocardial infarction” at the Congress.

Lyudmila I. Gapon has been working in Tyumen Cardiology Center since its foundation – April 1985. Earlier she combined work in Tyumen Cardiology Center with teaching in Tyumen State Medical Academy. L.I. Gapon is the author of over 400 publications, 3 monographs on problems of arterial hypertension pathogenesis, co-author of patents on the invention. Within her work in the institution she founded scientific school actively studying pathogenesis and treatment of arterial hypertension, as well as investigating regional peculiarities of the disease development.
Professor Gapon is a promoter of 9 habilitation and 45 Ph.D. theses. Due to Professor Gapon new methods of diagnosis and treatment of cardiovascular diseases were put into practice. Lyudmila Gapon was a leader of a number of projects, which were held at the institution within Russian and foreign multicenter clinical trials. Today she is one of the main coordinators of general clinical conferences and analyses, taking place in the institution. Professor Gapon is an excellent teacher. She tutors trainees and resident doctors. In addition, she is an expert of the Department of Health Care of Tyumen region, as well as a member of the Scientific Council of the institution on Siberia, Far East and Far North regions’ medical issues.

Russian Society of Cardiology as a professional medical community of doctors was founded in 1963. In 1993 All-Russian Scientific Society of Cardiology (the former name of the society) became a member of European Society of Cardiology (ESC). In 1994 it was registered in World Heart Federation (WHF). The current name was adopted by the decision of Board Meeting of All-Russian Scientific Society of Cardiology.
