On the 29th of September 2012 an event named “Take a step” will be held in Tyumen Cardiology Center. It will be dedicated to the World Heart Day which is celebrated on the last Sunday of September, as established by the World Health Organization.
It will be the first time for such kind of event to take place in Tyumen. Its main goal is to make the citizens understand that walking is the most available and easiest way to prevent heart disease for people of all ages. Research proves that everyday 40-minute walk can decrease the risk of developing heart disease threefold! A long walk on a regular basis helps to reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke, hypertension, arrhythmia, diabetes, bone and joint disorders, that is why it is believed to extend life expectancy and to be “the gold standard” in prevention of many diseases. The organizers hope that “Take a step” would attract a lot of participants.
At 10:00 in the hall of Tyumen Cardiology Center (111 Melnikaite St, 1st floor) the participants will be examined by cardiologists: they will have their blood pressure taken and fulfill some questionnaires which help to calculate the risk of heart disease. After that all the participants will get pedometers and head for the Square of Memory. Together with cardiologists they will take a 40-minute walk on the established route, during which they will be able to talk to the physicians, to ask questions about healthy lifestyle, healthsome nutrition, bad habits and etc. For the walk to be comfortable the organizers recommend to wear sports shoes and dress for the weather.
The Director of the Cardiology Center, Professor Vadim Kuznetsov with his family as well as some members of Tyumen Regional Duma will take part in the event.
It is worth noting that events like that become more and more popular. Similar events have been held in the USA, Australia, England and other countries. As far as Russia is concerned, such events are regularly held in Moscow (in the Bakulev Institute).
