The second half of April was rich in major international cardiology conferences: on 18-21 of April the World Congress of Cardiology 2012 (WCC) was held in Dubai (UAE) and on 26-29 of April the 22nd European Meeting on Hypertension and Cardiovascular Protection in London (UK).
In its 62 year history, WCC has never taken place in the Middle East. Tyumen Cardiology Center was represented by the Director, Professor Vadim Kuznetsov and interventional cardiologist Ivan Bessonov. Vadim Kuznetsov spoke at the Congress with two oral presentations, and 5 other his works were presented at WCC as posters. In the first report he talked about the level of education as an independent social risk factor of cardiovascular death in open male population of Western Siberia. The second report was devoted to Christians-Muslims differences in clinical manifestation and risk factors of stable coronary artery disease in Tyumen region. According to Ivan Bessonov, this presentation caused heated debate among the participants. There were a lot of questions and positive feedbacks.
«About 45 papers from Russia were presented at the Congress, including 7 from our Center. This is an excellent result, which proves that Tyumen Cardiology Center has earned deservedly the title of "Best Cardiology Clinic of the Year in Russia" (according to the National Award "Purple Heart" in 2011)», Ivan said.
Just after WCC in Dubai a delegation of Tyumen Cardiology Center went to London to take part in the 22nd European Meeting on Hypertension and Cardiovascular Protection. The meeting was held in the new and large International Convention Center of London, located in the heart of the Docklands area.
Head of the foreign relations department Elena Logunova mentioned that the meeting was arranged on a very high level. This year a record number of 1800 abstracts have been submitted to the Congress Scientific Committee and the best of them were presented at the meeting. Within the sessions there were debated the last achievements in detection and management of arterial hypertension and closely related various cardiovascular, endocrine and renal diseases and discussed important issues from the fields of physiology, epidemiology and prevention. And of course on the eve of the summer Olympic Games in London, a key theme of the meeting was the sport and the cardiovascular system.
Tyumen Cardiology Center actively participated in the Congress. Our scientists presented six poster presentations, including three prepared by Prof. Ludmila Gapon, Dr. Natalia Musikhina, Dr. Tatiana Petelina, Dr. Nina Shurkevich and another three prepared by the group of researchers led by Vadim Kuznetsov.
