On May 25, 2011 a press conference dedicated to the results of the National Award in Cardiology “Purple Heart” took place in Tyumen Cardiology Center.

It is worth reminding that on May 19 III Awarding Ceremony of the National Prize “Purple Heart” was held in the Pushkin Museum in Moscow. The Expert Council of the award included more than 50 leading Russian cardiologists and government representatives (Academician of the RAMS Rafael G. Oganov, Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Health care Olga Borzova and many others). There had been 63 applications submitted by physicians and institutions from around Russia.
Tyumen Cardiology Center won the best medical institution of the year award. Leading clinics and centers of Moscow, St. Petersburg, Ekaterinburg, Kemerovo, and Orenburg had been among the contestants in that nomination. The director of Tyumen Cardiology Center, Prof. Vadim A. Kuznetsov noted that if we compared the award with sports competitions, we could say that Tyumen Cardiology Center had become Russia`s champion in cardiology. Vadim Anatolievich also showed the diploma of the winner and a unique present – the Purple Heart chronograph which will take its place in the Cardiology Center museum.
Besides, interventional cardiologist of Tyumen Cardiology Center, Ivan Bessonov had entered the top three in the nomination “The Future of Russian Cardiology” with his research paper and had been also given a diploma. “This is my first award of that kind, and it was incredibly pleasant to get it,” said Ivan. “It`s great when your work is recognized.”
The press conference was also visited by Albert R. Yusupov, Deputy Director of the Tyumen region Health Care Department, and Prof. Ludmila I. Gapon, Head of the Arterial Hypertension Department at Tyumen Cardiology Center, Honored scientist of the Russian Federation, who is a member of the Ural chapter of the Expert Council. “All the information on the organizations and specialists was given to the jury electronically and anonymously. The experts knew neither the names of the participants nor their towns. There only was a list of the participants, but it was impossible to guess who was who. So any influence on the experts was eliminated,” said Ludmila Ivanovna.
The main objectives of the award are to promote specialists in the field of cardiology, to draw attention of the public and government to the problem of high rates of cardiovascular mortality, and to contribute to the development of advanced methods for diagnostics, prevention and treatment of cardiovascular diseases in Russia. In previous years prize winners in different nominations were Academician Rostislav S. Karpov, Academician Evgeniy I. Chazov, Professor Sergey V. Popov. In 2009 and 2010 the best medical institution award was won by Federal Arrhythmology Center (Tomsk) and Moscow Cardiology Clinic, respectively. Read more about the award on www.purpleheart.ru.
