On 18-20 May 2011 II INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS "CARDIOLOGY AT A CROSSROAD OF SCIENCES" was held in Tyumen Cardiology Center.

On May 18, 2011 the opening of the Congress took place in the Big Conference Hall of Tyumen Cardiology Center. The opening ceremony was visited by Professor Vladimir N. Kholmanskiy, vice-chairman of Tyumen region Duma and Professor Vadim A. Kuznetsov, Director of Tyumen Cardiology Center.
Professor Kuznetsov greeted the participants. “This year our congress has the widest geography, and the abstract book is almost as big as that one of the National Congress. We are pleased that our foreign colleagues respond to the invitations and take part in our meetings,” said he in his welcome speech. “It is also worth noting that this is the first time when the congress is held under the auspices of the Business Council of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization.”
Professor Fausto Pinto, Director of Lisbon Cardiovascular Institute, Vice President of the European Society of Cardiology (Lisbon, Portugal) congratulated Tyumen Cardiology Center upon its achievements in cardiology and addressed the meeting: “The congress is a very good chance for exchanging opinions on many pressing problems and getting advanced experience to use in everyday clinical practice. It is a great honour for me to be here.”
Vladimir Shabalin mentioned that specialists of Tyumen Cardiology Center were as experienced and skilful as their colleagues from Moscow and St. Petersburg and in some aspects even better. He emphasized that science in Tyumen Cardiology Center was developing dynamically and that was very important because science promoted economy and sociology like an engine.
This year the congress had a record number of attendees – about 750 participants from more than 40 cities of Russia and 12 countries (Germany, Greece, Israel, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Turkey, United Kingdom, and Uzbekistan).
Leading foreign cardiologists took part in the congress, among them Dr. Alan Fraser, Reader and Consultant Cardiologist at Wales Heart Research Institute, University of Wales College of Medicine, Past President of the European Association of Echocardiography (Cardiff, United Kingdom) and Professor Jaroslaw D. Kasprzak, Head of II Chair and Department of Cardiology at Medical University of Lodz (Lodz, Poland). For the first time the congress was visited by Dr. Dirk Bastian, a senior physician of the Department of Clinical Electrophysiology at Klinikum Nurnberg Sud/Cardiology (Nurnberg, Germany). In his presentation he talked about a new method for treating arrhythmias.
Within the congress VI International Symposium of Echocardiography and Vascular Ultrasound and ХVIII Annual International Conference “Cardiology Update” were held. For the first time there was a symposium on neurology organized in association with the Federal Center for Neurosurgery.
The congress came to an end on May 20. Traditionally, there was a gala-dinner and a farewell party with musical program of the band of Tyumen Cardiology Center “The Rhythms of the Heart”. The faculties and guests also enjoyed an interesting cultural exchange program: they had several city tours of Tyumen, a tour to Tobolsk and visited an eco-tourism center in Turnaevo village.
It is worth mentioning that the general sponsor of the congress was “Boston Scientific” which is one of the worldwide leading companies producing medical equipment. The general informational sponsor was Tyumen radio station “Dobrye pesni”. The congress was widely reported in the media and on the Internet.
